Globes, Blackletter and Yams Day: The Art Behind Our Designs
Every design in our store comes from A$AP Mob's own world: its logo, its slogans, its people and the tributes to its founder. Here is what you will find, and what it means.
What is the globe?
The round A$AP Worldwide badge is the collective's globe logo: a grid globe with A$AP arched on top and WORLDWIDE curving below. A$AP Worldwide is the name on the Mob's own releases. We print it as a clean white badge, in black and white on the back of our polaroid design, and in neon yellow and lime with wide techno letters on the Worldwide pieces.
Why the gothic letters?
Blackletter, the old-English type, has been part of hip-hop style for decades. Our A$AP MOB blackletter design keeps it simple: just the name, in tall grey letters. Blue blackletter also turns up on W.W., short for Worldwide.
What are the Yams Day designs?
A$AP Yams started the collective in 2006 and died in January 2015. The Mob remembered him with Yams Day, a tribute concert first held in New York in 2016. Our Yams Day designs include:
- Yams Day 2021 Harlem: A$AP YAMS in heavy type over a pink splash, with a circled Y on the back.
- Psychworld: a purple chrome script, with "In Loving Memory.. Yam's Day 2021" on the back.
- Always Strive and Prosper: the motto behind the A$AP name, written by hand.
- Yams 1:18: a painted arena scene with a sign for 18 January, in the spirit of the wrestling-themed 2019 Yams Day.
What else is in the collection?
